Glitter.land — The Magic Salon
Date: 2026-04-08 Status: Approved Approach: Salon with a Spine + Provocation Energy
1. Identity & Positioning
Glitter.land is The Magic Salon — a living intellectual space where ideas about technology, economics, and human flourishing are developed, debated, and sharpened.
Unicorn.land is the magic atelier — where we build. Glitter.land is the magic salon — where we think. A unicorn is made of glitter; the ideas are the raw material for the tools.
Core Beliefs
- Technology is evolutionary, not optional — the 7th kingdom (Technologium) is here
- The same disruption that creates risk creates enormous new value
- That value can be routed toward broad benefit — but only if people understand the mechanics
- The next economic paradigm should be nature-based: distributed, adaptive, mutualistic (mycelial, cambium)
- We don’t moralize. We don’t scare. We think clearly and build.
What This Is NOT
- Not “AI for Good” or “tech for impact” — no moral framing that creates in-groups and out-groups
- Not a think tank — those write reports nobody reads
- Not activism — inclusive by being pragmatic, not preachy
- Not academic — intellectually serious but written to move people
- Not techno-optimism — doesn’t dismiss distribution problems
- Not techno-pessimism — doesn’t pretend we can opt out
Tone
- Intellectually serious but not academic
- Sharp and opinionated, grounded in systems thinking
- Inclusive by being pragmatic — “this is where society is moving, come understand it”
- Written by builders, not observers
Relationship to Unicorn.land
- Separate domain, repo, and design identity
- Shared family traits (font, accent color, love of shimmer)
- Cross-link freely between sites
- The inequality economics essay migrates from Unicorn.land to Glitter.land
- “Built at Unicorn.land” / “Explored at Glitter.land” as sibling references
2. Site Structure
Landing Page — The Declaration of Inquiry
A single powerful page. Not a manifesto — a framing. An invitation to think together.
Content: - The core thesis in a few paragraphs: Technologium is here, the old paradigm is breaking, the new one can be designed, nature shows us how - “Who we are” — a salon of builders and thinkers, not observers - The threads currently being explored (linked) - A way to follow along (email subscription, social links)
Threads — Lines of Inquiry
Each thread is a sustained line of thinking that builds over time. Not blog categories — conversations.
Initial threads: - The Technologium Thesis — technology as evolutionary force, why resistance is the wrong frame - When Knowledge Costs Nothing — what happens to existing economic systems when information and knowledge are commoditized - Mycelial Economics — nature-based models for the next economic paradigm - The Inequality Mechanics — how wealth concentrates, how the same forces can redistribute - Financing the Transition — the disruption creates value; how to capture and route it
New threads emerge as thinking develops. Threads stay alive and grow.
Pieces — Provocations, Not Posts
Within each thread, individual pieces. Each one: - Has a clear thesis - Is 1000-2000 words - Is written to be shared and debated - Builds on other pieces within the thread - Cross-links to pieces in other threads
The network of cross-links grows organically. Over time, this becomes a visible graph of interconnected ideas.
3. Visual Identity
The Essence
If Unicorn.land is the rainbow shimmer — bold, holographic, playful magic — Glitter.land is the substrate. Individual particles of light before they become the rainbow. Ambient shimmer, not spectacle. A candlelit salon, not a disco ball.
Color Palette
- Dominant tones: Warm darks (not cool purple-blacks like Unicorn). Deep warm backgrounds — think aged wood, candlelight, salon warmth.
- Accent: Opal
#56dbd0carries over from Unicorn but used as a spark, not a dominant color - Secondary warmth: Soft golds, muted rose — the warm end of Unicorn’s rainbow palette
- Text: Warm stone neutrals (shared with Unicorn’s approach, not blue-gray)
Typography
- Headings: Outfit — the shared family trait with Unicorn.land. Used at reading scale, not display spectacle.
- Body text: Source Serif 4 — already proven in the inequality economics essay. This is a place for long-form reading.
- Code/data: JetBrains Mono when needed
Texture & Motion
- Subtle grain or paper-like quality — salon, not lab
- The shimmer text treatment from Unicorn.land carries over but softer, more contemplative
- Tiny particles of light as ambient texture — not aggressively animated
- Each piece could have its own subtle color cast, like light refracting differently through each idea
Relationship to Unicorn.land Visually
| Trait | Unicorn.land | Glitter.land |
|---|---|---|
| Font family | Outfit (display scale) | Outfit (reading scale) + Source Serif 4 |
| Accent | Opal, bold | Opal, as spark |
| Shimmer | Rainbow, holographic, bold | Ambient, warm, contemplative |
| Background | Cool purple-darks | Warm darks |
| Mood | Magic atelier | Magic salon |
4. Technical Architecture
Static site, same model as Unicorn.land
- Static HTML/CSS deployed to Cloudflare Pages
- Own repo:
Glitter.Land - Own domain:
glitter.land - Own design system derived from Unicorn’s warm salon identity
- No framework for v1 — handcrafted HTML with full design control per piece
Directory Structure

Why Static HTML
- Total design control per piece (custom styling, ambient effects — a CMS would fight this)
- AI-assisted authoring means tooling isn’t the bottleneck
- Cloudflare Pages: free, fast, global
- Matches Unicorn.land architecturally — true siblings
Future Additions (Not v1)
- Community/discussion features (separate service overlaying static content)
- Social media automation (own system pulling from content)
- Graph visualization (generated from cross-links in HTML)
- Events platform
- AI-powered research and paper generation pipeline
5. v1 Launch Scope
What ships:
- Landing page — declaration of inquiry. Core thesis, salon framing, thread links, subscribe/follow mechanism.
- Thread: The Inequality Mechanics — the existing inequality economics essay migrates here as the first piece. Minor updates for its new home.
- Thread: The Technologium Thesis — new piece. Technology as the 7th kingdom, why it’s evolutionary not optional, what that means. Sets the tone for the entire site.
What does NOT ship in v1:
- “When Knowledge Costs Nothing” thread
- “Mycelial Economics” thread
- “Financing the Transition” thread
- Social media presence/automation
- Community/discussion features
- Events
- Graph visualization
6. Future Vision (Post-v1)
The site is a living organism. Over time:
- More threads and pieces grow the network of ideas
- Social media and discussion spark conversation around provocations — discourse flows back into new pieces
- Online and offline events bring the salon to life — talks, debates, workshops
- AI as a tool for staying abreast of social implications, helping write papers, synthesizing discussion into new thinking
- The graph becomes visible — when there are enough nodes, the mycelial structure of the ideas can be explored visually
- Papers and research — using AI to produce rigorous work that contributes to the field, not just commentary
The manifesto isn’t written on day one. It emerges from the network of thinking over time. The organism grows its own skeleton.
