OUTREACH — copy-paste-ready, per channel
All text final and ready to paste. Joshua posts from his own accounts, in this order (matches VALIDATION.md days). [PAGE] = the deployed landing page URL; [FREE] = the free 1-pager URL (use [FREE] wherever a community bans commercial links). Nothing here has been posted.
Named communities (VEGA asked for specifics — verify membership/rules before posting): - Toytown Germany → forum section “Finance” (toytowngermany.com) — practical tax content welcomed - Reddit: r/germantaxes (most permissive), r/germany (strict — value-only, no link in body), r/Finanzen (German only, no self-promo — use the German value post + link in profile) - Slack: Silicon Allee (Berlin startup community Slack), Startup Berlin Slack (#general or #ask channels) — TODO(Joshua): confirm which of these you’re actually in; your Berlin founder WhatsApp groups count too - Facebook: “Expats in Berlin” and “Free Advice Berlin” (both allow question/experience posts; check pinned rules for links)
1) Toytown Germany — Finance forum (Day 2)
Title: I’ve self-filed my German UG’s corporate taxes for years (no Steuerberater). Here’s the actual annual sequence.
Body:
I’m American, my German is functional at best, and I run two UGs in Berlin. When I was quoted €3–5k/year per company for filings on companies that owe €0 tax — and half the Steuerberater I contacted never replied — I learned to do it myself. The Finanzamt has accepted every filing since.
The genuinely surprising part: it’s tedious, but it’s not hard. Maybe 6–8 hours a year once you know the sequence. Here it is for a small UG/GmbH:
- Jahresabschluss (HGB) — close the books, prepare the Bilanz. Everything else depends on this.
- E-Bilanz — the electronic tax balance sheet, submitted via a tool like eBilanz+ (status “endgültig/erstmalig”).
- KSt 1 + Anlage GK in Mein ELSTER — import the E-Bilanz (“Daten übernehmen”), then add the add-backs ELSTER won’t do for you: late fees are non-deductible Nebenleistungen (not “tax”, even though your GuV puts them there), and 30% of Bewirtung.
- GewSt 1 A — mostly mirrors the KSt numbers; one line must match exactly.
- USt-Jahreserklärung if you’re VAT-registered.
- Offenlegung/Hinterlegung at publikations-plattform.de — the step nobody tells you about. Generating the XML is NOT submitting it. Only the confirmation with an Offenlegungsnummer counts. Kleinstkapitalgesellschaften may just deposit the Bilanz (hinterlegen).
Also: if your UG is losing money, those losses are an asset — Verlustvorträge (§10d KStG/§10a GewStG) get assessed every year and offset future profits. Track them and check every Bescheid.
Happy to answer questions about the process (not your specific numbers — that would be Steuerberatung, which I’m legally not allowed to do and you wouldn’t want from a random American anyway).
I’m also running a live 3-hour English workshop where I file a complete dummy UG end-to-end on screen — details here if useful: [PAGE]
2) r/germantaxes (Day 2)
Title: The full annual filing sequence for a German UG, from an American who self-files (no Steuerberater)
Body: (same as Toytown body — this sub allows the link; keep it in the last paragraph, and add:)
Mods: I checked the rules and believe a single link with a genuinely useful post is OK — happy to remove it if not.
3) r/germany — pure value, NO link in body (Day 4)
Title: PSA for UG/GmbH founders: the 6 filings your company owes every year (even at €0 tax), and the one that silently ruins people
Body:
(paragraphs 1–3 and the 6-step list from the Toytown post, verbatim, then:)
The one that silently ruins people is #6. It’s not a tax form, no one reminds you, and accounting tools generate a “Publikation XML” that feels like filing but isn’t. Twelve-plus months later a letter from the Bundesamt für Justiz arrives threatening a €2,500 Ordnungsgeld. Check right now whether you can find a submission confirmation (not just an XML) for every year since founding.
Questions about the process welcome. (General process only — not advice on your specific numbers; for that, a licensed Steuerberater.)
(No link anywhere. Workshop link sits in Joshua’s Reddit profile bio — set it before posting.)
4) LinkedIn — story post (Day 3)
I fired my Steuerberater.
Not because they were bad — because I couldn’t get one. Two German UGs, €0 tax owed, and I was quoted €3–5k per company per year for the filings. When anyone replied at all.
So I did the thing everyone says is impossible for a foreigner: I learned to file German corporate taxes myself. In ELSTER. In German. With American-grade German skills.
That was years ago. The Finanzamt has accepted every single return since — KSt, GewSt, E-Bilanz, USt, Offenlegung, for both companies, every year.
What I learned: it’s not hard. It’s undocumented. There is not one page of official English documentation for ELSTER’s corporate forms. The sequence is maybe 6–8 hours a year once someone shows you where the traps are (the Offenlegung step alone has a €2,500 surprise waiting for people who think generating the XML means filing it).
So I’m doing a one-off live workshop: 3 hours, in English, where I file a complete dummy UG end-to-end on screen — every form, every field, every trap. Max 15 seats, Tue Aug 4, 19:00 Berlin time.
If you run a UG/GmbH and dread every Finanzamt envelope, this is for you: [PAGE]
(And if you just want the free 1-page annual sequence: [FREE])
5) Warm DM (5 founders Joshua knows — Day 3)
Hey [NAME] — quick one. You know how I self-file all the German corporate tax stuff for my two UGs? I’m turning it into a 3-hour live English workshop (complete dummy-UG filing on screen: E-Bilanz, KSt, GewSt, the Offenlegung trap). €149, max 15 seats, Aug 4 evening. Honest question, no pressure: would you pay for this — and if not, what’s off? Page: [PAGE]
6) Berlin founder Slack (Silicon Allee / Startup Berlin — Day 4)
Sharing because this cost me weeks to figure out: if you run a UG/GmbH here, your company owes 6 separate filings a year even at €0 tax — and the last one (Offenlegung at the Unternehmensregister) is the one that catches everyone, because generating the XML isn’t submitting it. I wrote up the full annual sequence in English (free, no signup): [FREE]
I’m also doing a live 3-hour workshop where I file a complete dummy UG on screen in English — I’ve self-filed for my two UGs for years, no Steuerberater, everything accepted. Happy to answer process questions here either way. [PAGE]
7) r/Finanzen — German version, value-only (Day 4, optional)
Titel: Erfahrungsbericht: Ich gebe als Ami die Steuererklärungen meiner zwei UGs seit Jahren selbst ab — ohne Steuerberater. So läuft die jährliche Sequenz.
Text:
Posting rules recap

- One community per day max on Reddit (avoid cross-post spam flags).
- Answer every single comment within a few hours on Day 1 of each post — that’s where the buyers are.
