What & why

A publication that takes one story a day, names the collision inside it — two things that are both good and genuinely in conflict — applies a written rule, and rules on it. Including when the ruling costs us something.

The rules are not improvised. They come from ../weitblick/lens/POSITION.md: six decision rules elicited by putting Joshua through forced trade-offs where two of his own principles collided, with predictions sealed before each answer. Three of the seven cases ended with his own published documents losing and being rewritten.

That is the whole differentiator. Anyone can have opinions. Almost nobody publishes the procedure that generates them, or the record of it overruling them.

Launch domain is mental health and care, not general politics — the one subject where Joshua is the most credible person in the room rather than one more voice, and where ../weitblick/docs/PRINCIPLES.md already locates the project’s purpose. Politics broadens out later, earned.

Where it stands

Name cleared. DPMA returned one hit — DE 30 2017 217 588, “SpielRaum THE STYLE OF FOOTBALL”, a word/image mark in class 25 for football apparel, no reach over a publication. EUIPO clean. thespielraum.com and thespielraum.de both registered. Handles confirmed free on YouTube, TikTok and Bluesky for both editions; Instagram, Threads, X and Facebook still unchecked because they refuse unauthenticated lookups.

Nothing is built. Two designs exist: the project design (linked below) and now the ingest and scoring design, which is the substantive piece and carries six open questions.

The engine runs dark for twelve months. It works cases and banks them; it publishes nothing. Three reasons, all load-bearing. § 18 MStV requires a named responsible person with a physical address for any journalistic-editorial offering, so “faceless” was never legally available. EU AI Act Art. 50(4), in force since 02.08.2026, exempts AI-drafted text from disclosure only where genuine human editorial review exists. And the Masawa raise closes around October with citizenship pending and discretionary. A dark year costs nothing, banks ~300 worked cases, and proves the method survives real events before it is load-bearing.

The economics are known and modest. German paid-newsletter ARPU is €5.77, not €8. 15,000 subscribers nets ~€885k, not €1.44M. Year one is realistically ~€2,000 a month. This funds one to three people in three to four years, not fifteen to twenty. Recorded so it is not rediscovered later as a disappointment.

Next / open threads

  • Six decisions in docs/ENGINE.md §6 — domain scope, language handling, scoring budget, one case a day or several, how escalations reach Joshua, and where the bank lives. The build waits on these.
  • Build the engine, in order: ingest, clustering, the two cheap filters, then the scorer and the open-question gate. Roughly a third is reusable from Oannes; everything above the ruling is new, because Oannes reads a fixed vault and this reads a firehose.
  • Handles on the four platforms that block unauthenticated checks.
  • Brand and identity — unblocked by the trademark clearance, and genuinely not urgent while nothing is public.

Decisions

  • 2026-08-05The public project is The Spielraum, separate from Weitblick. Weitblick e.V. already exists (student NGO, 2008, 15 chapters, ~1,600 members). Weitblick keeps the framework, where the collision is harmless; the publication takes a new name. The English article makes it trademarkable and states the position — an American becoming German, looking at German life from just outside it.
  • 2026-08-05The engine runs dark for twelve months. Legal and timing constraints above. Joshua’s own trigger conditions were right and the first plan violated them.
  • 2026-08-05Launch domain is mental health and care. Where he has standing, and where the stated purpose already lives.
  • 2026-08-05Four binding rules on human subjects. The system is the subject, not a sufferer; never someone in crisis; anyone who appears came to us and can withdraw; his own experience is available, his family’s is not. Out-group language is the strongest predictor of sharing and this project refuses it, so the replacement engine is recognition — the reader seeing their own life named — rather than a stranger’s suffering.
  • 2026-08-06Name cleared on DPMA and EUIPO.
  • 2026-08-06Sources stay pluggable and the scope is world-wide. German, European and world news, high volume, source list deliberately unsettled. Breadth comes from GDELT because it is source-agnostic and does not smuggle in a worldview through an outlet list; depth comes from a short, explicit, argued-about RSS set.
